MOAB HPC SUITE

Moab HPC Suite

Moab® HPC Suite is a workload and resource orchestration platform that automates the scheduling, managing, monitoring, and reporting of HPC workloads on massive scale. Its patented intelligence engine uses multi-dimensional policies and advanced future modeling to optimize workload start and run times on diverse resources.

These policies balance high utilization and throughput goals with competing workload priorities and SLA requirements, thereby accomplishing more work in less time and in the right priority order. Moab HPC Suite optimizes the value and usability of HPC systems while reducing management cost and complexity.

Ease of Use Driven Productivity

Moab HPC Suite optimizes resource efficiency on heterogeneous clusters and aligns usage to SLAs that match business objectives.

As clusters are scaled up to meet the needs of multiple groups, inevitably the application requirements of those groups require different resource configurations to optimize their application performance. Moab’s advanced resource management enables it to effectively control and optimize resources in complex or heterogeneous HPC environments.

It includes capabilities that allow Moab HPC Suite to aggregate local resources, incorporate information from remote tools or custom fields into scheduling decisions, apply unique policies to groupings of nodes, and add fine-tuned controls over workload placement on resources.

These capabilities will enhance scheduling decisions in complex environments, boost application performance through better resource matching, and improve overall system utilization. To accomplish this, Moab HPC Suite utilizes node sets, NUMA, multi-resource manager support, and node allocation policies. Other features include Docker Support, Malleable Jobs, Remap Classes, Generic Metrics, and Generic Events.

  • Enhance scheduling decisions in complex environments
  • Boost application performance through better resource matching
  • Improve overall system utilization

As multiple groups begin to utilize a cluster, their competing needs and usage behaviors will inevitably cause conflict. Therefore, service guarantees are important to help ensure the system is utilized in a way that completes the “most important” work for achieving the organization’s top objectives.

With Moab HPC Suite’s group sharing policies, organizations get the controls they need to efficiently share a cluster between multiple groups and the ability to align resource usage to business objectives, while still maintaining high utilization. Example capabilities include Account and QoS credential rights, Hierarchical Fairshare, Advanced Prioritization, Preemption, and Administrative Reservations. Other features include Job Deadlines and Personal Reservations.

  • Get the controls necessary to efficiently share a cluster between multiple groups
  • Align resource usage to business objectives, while still maintaining high utilization

MOAB HPC SUITE

These capabilities facilitate such things as portal-based job submission, accounting, workflow management, grid management, elastic computing, power management, high throughput submission, and remote visualization. Add these powerful modules according to specific needs.

HPC Cloud
On-Demand Data Center

The HPC Cloud On-Demand Data Center (ODDC) provides a scalable cloud systems management platform that gives companies the ability to leverage public cloud provider resources, with no lock-in to any major cloud provider.

Torque Resource Manager

TORQUE can integrate with Moab, a workload manager that intelligently places workloads and adapts resources to optimize application performance, increase system utilization, and achieve organizational objectives.

Viewpoint

Viewpoint is a rich, easy-to-use portal for end-users and administrators, designed to increase productivity through its visual web-based interface, powerful job management features, and other workload functions.

Accounting Manager

Flexibly track and charge for resource or service usage. Perform deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and refunds while providing balance and usage feedback to users, managers, and system administrators.

Wide Area Grid

Wide Area Grid is a powerful grid-workload management solution that provides unified scheduling, intelligent policy management, integrated resource management, data staging, distributed computing, and consolidated monitoring and management across multiple clusters

Power Management

Automate individual, per-application CPU clock frequencies and lower the power state of idle nodes using the Green Pool Buffer Policy, minimizing energy costs while preserving performance.

REMOTE VISUALIZATION

Remote Visualization is a key contributor to an organization’s productivity. With Remote Visualization, users spend less time waiting for files to be moved between their workstation and the cluster, as they simply render remotely and visualize it locally.

Reporting and Analytics

Our Reporting and Analytics tool enables organizations to gain insights by streaming resource usage and workload data into custom reports and personalized dashboards.

Nitro High Throughput

Nitro is a highly powerful, yet simple task launching solution that operates as an independent product, but can also integrate seamlessly with any HPC scheduler.

Intelligent HPC Workload Management Across Infrastructure and Organizational Complexity

Moab HPC Suite acts as the “brain” of a high performance computing (HPC) system to accelerate and automate complex decision making processes. The patented Moab intelligence engine provides multi-dimensional policies that mimic real-world decision making.  These multi-dimensional, real-world policies are essential in scheduling workload to optimize job speed, job success and resource utilization. Moab HPC Suite integrates decision-making data from and automates actions through your system’s existing mix of resource managers. This enables all the dimensions of real-time granular resource attributes, resource state, as well as current and future resource commitments to be modeled against workload/application requirements.  All of these dimensions are then factored into the most efficient scheduling decisions. Moab also dramatically simplifies the management tasks and processes across these complex, heterogeneous environments. Moab works with many of the major resource management and industry standard resource monitoring tools and covers mixed hardware, network, storage and licenses.

Moab HPC Suite multi-dimensional policies are also able to factor in organizational priorities and complexities when scheduling workload. Moab ensures workload is processed according to organizational priorities and commitments and that resources are shared fairly across users, groups and even multiple organizations. This enables organizations to automatically enforce service guarantees and effectively manage organizational complexities with simple policy-based settings.

Moab HPC Suite is architected to integrate on top of your existing resource managers and other types of management tools in your environment to provide policy-based scheduling and management of workloads. It makes the optimal complex decisions based on all of the data it integrates from the various resource managers and then orchestrates the job and management actions through those resource managers. Moab’s flexible management integration makes it the ideal choice to integrate with existing or new systems as well as to manage your high performance computing system as it grows and expands in the future.

Moab HPC Suite Components

Moab Viewpoint portal eases job submission and management for users from any location with minimal training required.

Provides for easy viewing of workload status, reporting on resource utilization and other system metrics, and the graphical management of some policies. This is provided by the Moab Cluster Manager desktop application, with reporting and dashboard management also available in the Moab Viewpoint portal admin views.

Automates the complex, optimized workload scheduling decisions and management actions with multi-dimensional policies that mimic real-world decision making. These policies balance maximizing job throughout and utilization with meeting SLAs and priorities.
